Kim's Convenience, created by Ins Choi (Korean-Candanian) and Kevin White follows the story of a Korean Canadian family that runs a convenience store, and explores the hilarious, relatable and at times poignant pieces of their everyday life. The show casts Asian artists who didn’t enjoy mass popularity. It was hailed as a pathbreaker in representation for the Asian community in the West. One of the lead actors, Simu Liu went on to star in his own Marvel movie “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings”. After its abrupt cancellation in 2021 due to co-creator Kevin White leaving, many members of the cast came out and voiced their concerns around exploitative work conditions, a predominantly white production team and low salaries. Co-star Jean Yoon voiced her concerns over the lack of Korean writers involved in the show. The show streams on Netflix worldwide.
